K-8 Curriculum Overview

We use BJU as our exclusive curriculum of choice. We are confident that this curriculum challenges and prepares our students. We have also been implementing additional reading and writing so that these students are fully prepared to be successful in high school, and ultimately college.

High School Graduation Credit Requirements

Eight semesters of attendance are required from graduation unless granted a waiver due to special circumstance by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Principal.

Credits needed to graduate are assigned as follows: Class of 2010 and after – 25 Credits.

All students take seven subjects (classroom) including physical education.

Participation in graduation exercises will include students who have completed the course requirements, attendance requirements, and have completed the terminating courses under the auspices of Mid-America Preparatory School.

4 Credits of English – (2 credits writing intensive)
3 Credits of English
3 Credits of Math
2 ½ Credits of Social Studies (including 1 credit of U.S. History, 1 credit of World History, and ½ credit of Civics)
2 Credits of Science
1 Credit of Computer Oriented Technology
1 Credit of Foreign Language, Music, Art, or Vocational Education
½ Credit of Health
4 Credits of Physical Education
½ Credit of Consumer Education
IL/US Constitution – Passing Score

College Recommendations Requirements

College bound students pursuing entrance into a 4-year institution will not be recommended unless they meet the following Board of Higher Education Requirements:

4 Credits of English
3 Credits of Math (Algebra I and beyond – Applied Math does not count)
3 Credits of Lab Science
3 Credits for Social Studies
2 Credits of Foreign Language, Music, Art, or Vocational Education


High School Grading

The grading system is a 4.0 system with “+” and “-“. There will be no A+ available as a grade. Grade Point Average (GPA) will be calculated based in the 4.0 system with”+” and “-“.

A- = 89.45 – 92.44
B+ = 88.45 – 89.44
B = 82.45 – 88.44
B- = 79.45 – 82.44
C+ = 78.45 – 79.44
C = 72.45 – 78.44
C- = 69.45 – 72.44
D+ = 68.45 – 69.44
D = 62.45 – 68.44
D- = 59.45 – 62.44
F = 0


High School Credits

(1)  ½ credit will be awarded per semester for the successful of Physical Education.
(2)  1 credit will be awarded for the successful completion of other courses which meet five times per week (or the time equivalent) for one year.
(3)  ½ credit will be awarded for the successful completion of other courses which
meet five times per week (or the time equivalent) for one semester.
(4)  Credits earned through college night/day courses may be used for graduation up to two (2) credits.
(5)  Students will be enrolled in Physical Education every semester unless the student has physical limitations and exemptions signed by a physician.
(6)  The principal may grant credit on the basis of examination to students who have achieved the necessary proficiencies through independent study, with tutoring, or for work taken in or from a recognized institution. Plans for earning credit outside of regular classes shall be approved in advance by the principal. The student’s permanent record will indicate how the credit was earned.
